National Confederation of Dalit & Adivasi Organisations

About Us

NACDAOR is the national platform for more than 2200 Dalit Adivasi organisations spread across 23 states of India. Centre for Alternative Dalit Media (CADAM) acts as the secretariat of this national platform. CADAM came up as a response to the caste-bias reflected in the mainstream media during the Anti-Mandal Commission Report agitations. To break the isolation of Dalit organizations, CADAM organized a national conference of Dalit organizations from all over the country in the year, 2001, which gave birth to the National Confederation of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR) which became the national platform of organisations led by Dalits, Adivasis, and other socially excluded sections. NACDAOR presently has a nationwide network of committed volunteers working for the empowerment of the Dalits, Adivasis and other socially excluded communities.

Dalits form about one-fourth of India’s population and constitute 4% of the World’s Population. This is a size bigger than 72% of 189 countries of the world. The Dalits form the largest block of the ‘Bottom of the Pyramid’, surely a daunting challenge, but an opportunity of unbound promises. Given the size of the Dalit community, their tradition of untiring labour, creativity, and craftsmanship, they can be a powerful ally in unlocking India’s potential to become world’s ‘Numero Uno’ economy, creating unlimited wealth and a double-digit growth.

National Confederation of Dalit Adivasi Organisations (NACDAOR) is the apex body of Dalit Organisations in India. NACDAOR is committed to an inclusive, progressive, secular, democratic and non-sectarian society. While firmly believing in equality, social justice and equal dignity for all, NACDAOR promotes democracy, human rights, sustainable development, peace and reconciliation from the perspective of the socially excluded Dalits.

Our Mission

NACDAOR’s mission is to build a strong emancipatory movement of Dalits and other disadvantaged sections in India, which can re-structure the existing social-economic-political-cultural structures in line with the aspiration and dreams of Dalits Adivasis and other disadvantaged communities.
